The Chung Ho Memorial Hospital of Kaohsiung Medical University (KMUH) was recently accredited to Phase 6 of the HIMSS Electronic Medical Record Accreditation Model.
Eight stages Aram It measures the effective use of the health facility and the deployment of electronic medical records technology.
why does it matter
The 1,720-bed medical center sought EMRAM certification to take “objective measurements in the digital transformation journey and strive to meet international standards.”
In a statement, HIMSS said KMUH demonstrated “impressive” regulation of the EMR registry in terms of standardization, efficiency, quality checks and data use, all of which contribute to achieving a “high level” of structured clinical documentation.
The hospital’s CDSS has also been praised for having different types of alerts and warnings. HIMSS noted unique types of alerts, such as those for medications that may not be crushed or cut in half, integration of drug genetics test results, infusion speed checks and pediatric dosing advice.
In addition, the use of technology to support patient engagement for both inpatients and outpatients has been found with several applications covering various functions to support self-management “exceptionally at supporting patients with timely information and communication”.
HIMSS also made some recommendations for further improvements to hospital systems and processes. This includes having automated and intuitive alerts for pharmacists; integrate a fluid balance chart with an ordering system or medication administration; and facilitate remote patient monitoring and health maintenance reminders.
The biggest trend
KMUH, the first private university-affiliated hospital in Taiwan, has joined a growing group of healthcare providers in Taiwan with EMRAM Phase 6 certification. Its accreditation—a first in Kaohsiung—follows Far Eastern Memorial Hospital, which earned its certification in early this year. two hospitals in Taichung City, Tungs’ Taichung MetroHarbor Hospital and Taichung Veterans General Hospital are also accredited at this level.
In a statement, KMUH said it is “preparing to invest in the necessary software and hardware facilities” to meet the requirements for achieving EMRAM Stage 7 — the highest stage for this model. It also plans to undergo HIMSS Digital health indicator appreciation. A fellow local hospital, Changhua Christian Hospital, recently achieved EMRAM Stage 7.
On the record
“Throughout the certification process, we have thoroughly reviewed various healthcare digital processes, resulting in discovery of innovative ideas and procedural improvements. Obtaining () EMRAM certification allows us to continue to introduce advanced technologies, expand industry linkages, and explore the application of AI in the medical field as we continue Drive the digital transformation of healthcare. Our goal is to provide patients with high-quality medical services,” said Dr. Gu Yuanwang, Professor and Superintendent at KMUH.
“KMUH is well on its way to achieving its goal of being a high-performance, intelligent hospital, underpinned by a next-generation digital health information system, and a strong digital strategy and governance that enables it to deliver high quality, safe and effective care for its residents,” commented Andrew Pearce, HIMSS Vice President of Analytics and Global Consultant Head , also.
